Walking

It’s unavoidable to have to walk to get around in the Philippines. However, even when walking short distances, it’s best to be aware of your surroundings. Here are some tips and tricks to help you out!

STAY SAFE WHEN WALKING!

NOTE 1

Walk on sidewalks

If you’re on the road because there are no sidewalks, walk against the flow so that the drivers can see you from a much further distance.

TIP 1

Beware of Motorcycles

Motorcycles sometimes run on the sidewalk. Be aware of your back!

NOTE 2

Close your bags!

When walking, keep your bags facing the inside of the sidewalk. This prevents it from being easily snatched.

NOTE 3

Keep aware

Act like you’re aware but not paranoid or scared. You’ll be okay. You got this.

NOTE 4

Go behind!

When crossing, always go behind the vehicle of the car infront of you. Never move to cross infront of the car. This way, the driver of the next car will see you

NOTE 5

Look this way

Look towards incoming traffic, not the otherside.
Please.

NOTE 6

Don’t run!

Don’t run. Cross at a steady pace & keep a hand up if you must.

NOTE 7

Too slow

Some cars will slow down to let you pass. Don’t walk too slowly or dally from crossing. Taking too long will irritate the drivers.

NOTE 8

Blah blah blah

Don’t chat or text while crossing.

NOTE 9

Stay in between

If you need to stop while crossing, don’t stop in the middle of the road. Stop between lanes. Don’t step backwards either. Unless it’s the sidewalk. Even then, be careful.

NOTE 10

Keep it safe

Keep everything that’s valuable in a safe place. No, your cellphone in your breastpocket is not a safe place.

NOTE 11

Blending in

At night, avoid wearing dark colored shirts as it’s more difficult to pick out in the dark. Wear light colored shirts or have something that’ll reflect immediately when headlights hit it.
